More NegOr LGUs accept online sign up for nat’l ID

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Negros Oriental has five more local government units (LGUs) that are now accepting online pre-registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

Ariel Fortuito, PSA-Negros Oriental provincial chief, in an interview Tuesday said these are the cities of Guihulngan, Bais, Tanjay and Bayawan, and the municipality of Sta. Catalina.

They started accepting online registration for the national identification system on June 15, he said.

On the other hand, Dumaguete started its online registration last June 1st, he added.

The online Step 1 registration makes it easier, faster, and more convenient for the people as they no longer have to physically go to their respective barangays or designated registration areas to sign up for the national ID.

Once registered online, all they need to do is to present their assigned registration number (ARN) once they move on to Step 2 at the designated registration outlets, Fortuito said.

He said the online registration is timely because the province was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from June 16-30 as announced Monday night by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Fortuito said they are still awaiting official guidance as to whether the face-to-face national ID registration will continue during the MECQ.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that will be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions
