ESTCON 2024 Platform To Exchange, Develop Knowledge For Sustainable Future

KOTA KINABALU, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) organised the eighth edition of the World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress as a platform for researchers, academics, scientists, engineers and industry players to exchange views as well as develop knowledge for sustainable future.

Running for two days until tomorrow at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here, the biennial event which is supported by PETRONAS and the Higher Education Ministry, brought together 1,000 participants from 25 countries to discuss the latest trends and challenges in engineering, technology and humanities.

UTP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said with the theme ‘Future Positioning through Sustainable Energy, Digitalisation, and Smart Community’, the congress was renewed and enhanced to dive deep into the intricacies of energy transition and transformation, fostering sustainable living.

For this edition, he said there were five conferences covering a wide range of fields in inno
vation, engineering and technology as well as in humanities addressing the latest trends and challenges facing the world.

‘ESTCON2024 will also address contemporary trends and global challenges encompassing a broad spectrum of disciplines in innovation, engineering, technology and humanities,’ he said in his speech at the opening ceremony which was officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor here today.

Mohamed Ibrahim said ESTCON has always been an excellent centre stage for knowledge sharing, intellectual discussions and also networking on various areas of interest.

‘By building bridges between researchers, academia, and industry and linking innovative minds across disciplines, we hope that ESTCON2024 will provide an inspiring and innovative platform to exchange and develop knowledge which will lead to enduring collaborations,’ he said.

Meanwhile, UTP in the press release said ESTCON2024 featured five focused conferences offering in-depth exploration of key sustainability areas namely Inte
rnational Conference on Decarbonisation Technology and International Conference on E-Mobility.

It also includes the International Conference on Environmental, Social and Governance, International Conference on Smart Cities and International Conference on Subsurface Technology.

This diverse programme provided attendees with the chance to engage with industry professionals, delve into trends and insights on energy transition, sustainability and digitalisation, with over 500 research papers were presented, fostering knowledge exchange as well as collaboration among industry experts and academics.

It also presented an unique opportunity for Sabahans to engage with global thought leaders and explore cutting-edge advancements in sustainability.
